Girls claim 70% of chancellor medals
PRAYAGRAJ: The convocation function of Allahabad University witnessed female students claiming 70% of the chancellor’s medals awarded on the occasion. At the same time, members of the fair sex also claimed around 58% of the total 263 medals awarded at the ceremony.
Seven out of the 10 Chancellor Medals awarded to meritorious students for the two academic sessions including 2018-19 and 2019-20 at the convocation were claimed by female students. Himanshu Dubey, BA-LLB:
Honoured with Chancellor’s Gold Medal (2018-19), Himanshu Dubey is a resident of Sulem Sarai locality of Prayagraj. The son of Allahabad High Court joint registrar Mahesh Kumar Dubey, Himanshu shared that his dream was to pursue a career as a judicial officer. He was also awarded University of Allahabad Gold Medal for securing the first position in BA-LLB.
Neha Mishra, BSc (Bio)
Honoured with Chancellor’s Silver Medal (2018-19), Neha Sharma is a resident of Rae Bareli. Her father Sangam Lal Mishra is a retired engineer of the irrigation department. Pursuing MSc (Chemistry), Neha said that her dream was to become a scientist. She was also awarded Deota Din Srivastava and Ram Dulari gold medal, University silver medal, Smt Usha Gupta gold medal, Smt Shanti Devi Srivastava gold medal, Sri Kanhaiya Lal Kackar gold medal and Parsadi Lal gold medal.
Kulbhushan Tiwari, BA
Winner of Chancellor’s Bronze Medal (2018-19), Kulbhushan Tiwari hails from Deoria district. The son of Janrdhan Tiwari, a farmer, Kulbhushan said that his dream was to become a civil servant. He was also awarded Dr Kally Das Nandy Thacksmony gold medal, Nil Kamal Mitra gold medal, Hari Prava silver medal, Shambhu Nath Shukla gold medal, Shyam Bihari Lal gold medal, Late Hari Shankar Shukla memorial gold medal, University silver medal and Prof AC Mukerji gold medal.
Shivnekar Revati Vijay, MSc (Cognitive Science)
Awarded the Chancellor’s Gold Medal (2018-19), Shivnekar Revati hails from Pune, Maharashtra. Her father Vijay Shivnekar is a businessman. She wishes to complete her PhD and pursue a career as an academician.
Shreya Agarwal, MSc (Computer Science)
Awarded the Chancellor’s Silver Medal (2018-19), Shreya Agarwal is a resident of Chowk locality of Prayagraj. Daughter of Amit Kumar Agarwal, a businessman, Shreya said that she aspires to pursue a career as an academician..
Akshika Mittal, BCA
Awarded the Chancellor’s Gold Medal (2019-20), Akshika Mittal is a resident of George Town locality of Prayagraj. The daughter of Alok Mittal, deputy registrar at Allahabad High Court, her dream is to join IT sector as an IT expert. She was also awarded the University of Allahabad Gold Medal for securing first position in BCA.
Shalvika Upadhyay, BA
Awarded the Chancellor’s Silver Medal (2019-20), Shalvika Upadhyay is a resident of Civil Lines locality of Prayagraj. The daughter of Shailendra Kumar Upadhyay, Deputy Commissioner, GST, Shalvika said that she aspires to crack the civil services exam and pursue a career as a bureaucrat. She was also awarded Lala Puttu Lal silver medal, Smt Hira Kumari Jha gold medal, Miss Munni Gurtu gold medal, University silver medal and Prof AC Mukerji gold medal.
Urja Srivastava, BTech
Awarded the Chancellor’s Bronze Medal (2019-20), Urja Srivastava is a resident of Prayagraj. The daughter of Ashok Kumar Srivastava, working in a private firm in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, she aspires to become a software engineer. Her mother Renu Johri is professor in the music department of AU.
Madhavi Singh, MSc (Botany)
Awarded the Chancellor’s Gold Medal (2019-20), Madhavi Singh was also awarded Girija Dayal Srivastava gold medal, Saroj Bani Ghosh memorial gold medal and Nihal Chandra Tondan gold medal.
Shashank Mani Tripathi, M.Sc. (Biotechnology)
Awarded the Chancellor’s Silver Medal (2019-20), Shashank Mani Tripathi is a resident of Kushinagar district. The son of Mukund Mani Tripathi, Shashank said that his dream was to pursue a career as a civil servant. He was also awarded University of Allahabad Gold Medal for first position in MSc (Biotechnology).
Maiden Dronacharya, Meghnad Saha awards conferred
The convocation ceremony of Allahabad University also witnessed the presentation of the maiden Dronacharya and Meghnad Saha awards. Assistant professors in the department of anthropology, Dr Rahul Patel and Dr Ena Gupta of the department of family and community science (earlier known as Home Science) were awarded the first Dronacharya award of AU.
This award, based on direct and confidential feedback from the students, is given to the most popular teacher on campus. Likewise, a research scholar of Prof SI Rizvi of the department of biochemistry Raushan Kumar and research scholar Anvita Raghuvanshi of the department of commerce, Srijan Anant have been conferred with the Meghnad Saha award. The award is given to the best research scholar on the campus.
