Cong workers oppose Arya’s candidature in Bazpur constituency
RUDRAPUR: A dispute has surfaced among Congress workers in Bazpur of US Nagar over possible candidature of Yashpal Arya from the Bazpur constituency in the 2022 assembly polls.
A section of the Congress workers wants Arya to contest election from another constituency. If he contests election from Bazpur, they said, he will have to face challenge within the party.
“Arya was Congress MLA from Bazpur constituency and in 2017, he contested election from the BJP damaging the Congress. He rejoined the Congress fearing defeat as a BJP candidate and wants to contest election as a Congress candidate. He has no role in solving problems of the area that is why we are opposing his candidature,” said Rajendra Bedi, city president, Congress of
Bazpur unit.
A meeting was held by a section of the party workers on the premises of Sugar Mill on Tuesday. The party workers opposed Arya’s wish to contest election from Bazpur. They advised Arya not to contest election from Bazpur constituency and he should give a chance to Sunita Tamta who fought the election as a Congress candidate in the last election.
Bedi said, “A month ago Arya was a cabinet minister and we were facing problems and we were opposing three new farm laws but he never stood with us. He has joined Congress only to enjoy powers and has nothing to do with Bazpur.” Kulwinder Singh Kinda, a member of zila panchayat, said, “There is resentment against Arya in our constituency. We left no stone unturned in 2012 for his win but he joined the BJP in 2017.
