Sessions court rejects bail plea of Anand Giri

NARENDRA GIRI’S BODY WAS FOUND HANGING FROM THE CEILING OF A ROOM IN SHRI MATH BAGHAMBARI GADDI UNDER THE GEORGETOWN POLICE STATION LIMITS IN PRAYAGRAJ ON SEPTEMBER 20.

PRAYAGRAJ: The sessions court of Prayagraj on Thursday rejected the bail applicatio­n of Anand Giri, who is an accused in the mysterious death case of Narendra Giri, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP).

Rejecting the bail applicatio­n, Special Judge (EC Act), Mridul Kumar Mishra said that as per the case diary, the witnesses have by and large supported the prosecutio­n case.

“Therefore, keeping in view the gravity and seriousnes­s of the offence, the bail applicatio­n is rejected,” the special judge added.

Narendra Giri’s body was found hanging from the ceiling of a room in Shri Math Baghambari Gaddi under the Georgetown police station limits in Prayagraj on September 20.

In his suicide note, the Mahant had charged his former disciple Anand Giri and two others of mental harassment.

An FIR was lodged against the three accused under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the police station Georgetown in Prayagraj.

Subsequent­ly, Anand Giri and two others were arrested and produced before the CJM court on September 22 and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days and sent to jail.

Later, on the recommenda­tion of the state government, the investigat­ion of the case was transferre­d from UP police to the CBI.

At present, all the three accused are lodged in the Naini central jail here.
