- HT Correspondent letters@htlive.com

VARANASI : After a forensic report confirmed earlier this week that firing was done from the licensed weapons of three accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri case in recent times, Union minister of state for home Ajay Mishra Teni, whose son Ashish Mishra is one of the accused, on Friday refused to comment on the issue, saying that the matter is sub judice. The minister was addressing a press conference here regarding the two-day Akhil Bharatiya Rajbhasha Sammelan scheduled to begin in Varanasi on November 13.

He was responding to questions about the opposition’s demand for his resignation in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed on October 3 and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report.

“The matter is sub judice. It is with the investigating agency. So, it is not appropriate to comment on it,” he said.

Asked whether he should resign on moral grounds, Mishra said, “There is no point in such questions because the matter is already sub judice and investigating agency is probing the matter. Whatever will happen, will happen for the good.”

Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials were trying to establish the presence of three accused —Ashish Mishra, his friend Ankit Das and his private gunner Latif alias Kaale — at the site of the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri case of October 3 after a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report confirmed that firing was done from their licensed weapons in recent times, a police official and member of SIT requesting anonymity had said on November 10.

‘Hindi speakers across world’

Mishra said, during last seven years there has been a massive increase in the number of people who speak, write and read Hindi, since Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has been promoting Hindi. “PM also emphasized on using everyday words by simplifying Hindi. The popular words of each language have also been included in Hindi. Its vocabulary is huge anyway, that’s why it is one of the best languages of the world, he said.
