“Swarnim Vijay Mashal” to arrive in Sangam city on Nov 21

After arriving in Prayagraj at around 4 pm from Gaya, the torch will remain there until November 29, during which several events will be held

PRAYAGRAJ : The “Swarnim Vijay Mashal” (victory torch), which is commemorat­ing 50 years of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, would arrive in Sangam city on November 21. Coming from Gaya at around 4 pm, the torch will remain in Prayagraj till November 29 during which a number of events would be organised to celebrate the victory, said Indian army officials.

The “torch”, which had started its pan-India journey last year, would be leaving for Delhi on November 29, they added. During an interactio­n with the media, Colonel GS, Sub Area (UP and MP), Colonel Manish Kumar informed about the events that would be held in the city till November 29.

“On November 21, the torch would arrive at UP and MP Sub Area headquarte­rs wherein a grand ceremonial welcome will be accorded to it. On the same day, several events would be held at Chandra Shekhar Azad Park,” said Col Kumar.

A weapons’ exhibition will be organised in the park which would be inaugurate­d at 10 am and continue till evening, he added.

The “Vijay Mashal” will go to the Allahabad high court on November 22 and would be handed over to the Chief Justice of the Allahabad high court.

In the evening, the “torch” would be taken at the orphanage at Swaraj Bhavan. A programme for the children would be organised. On November 23, the victory torch will be taken to MNNIT.

On the same day, the “torch” will also go to Pratapgarh. It would be taken to Ordnance Depot Fort on November 24. Later that day, there will be a 6km race in Sangam area for under-18, 18-45 years and above 45 years age groups. Then, the torch will go to the Reserve Police Lines and the police along with army personnel would take the “torch” for a tour of the city.

On November 25, the “torch” will go to the North Central Railway (NCR). It will go to Central Air Command headquarte­rs at Bamrauli on November 26, COD-Cheoki on November 27, and OD Fort on November 28. On November 28, a water sports competitio­n will also be held at Saraswati ghat in which different types of boats will participat­e. The “torch” will be handed over to the 4th Infantry Division on November 29.

“The ‘Vijay Mashal’ will leave for Kanpur on the same day. A special army train will come to take it and the special train from Subedargan­j will leave with the ‘torch’,” said Col Kumar.

The victory torch would also go to the village of Prayagraj’s armyman Dinanath who laid down his life during the 1971 war. A statue of the braveheart will also be unveiled there on November 21.
