Narendra Giri death: CBI files charge-sheet against 3 accused

THE THREE ACCUSED HAVE BEEN CHARGED UNDER SECTIONS 306 AND 120B OF THE IPC.

PRAYAGRAJ : Two months after the death of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri, the CBI on Saturday filed charge-sheet in the chief judicial magistrate’s court here against Anand Giri, Aadya Prasad and Sandeep Tiwari on charge of abetment to suicide.

Anand Giri is a disciple of Narendra Giri, while Aadya Prasad was the priest of Bade Hanuman temple of Prayagraj. Sandeep is Aadya Prasad’s son.

Chief judicial magistrate Harendra Nath took cognizance of the charge-sheet and in the order passed after perusal of the charge sheet, said that sufficient grounds for taking cognizance were available. The accused presented through video conferenci­ng from jail did not raise any objection.

In the charge-sheet, the three accused have been charged under Sections 306 and 120B of the IPC.

The CBI has relied on the statements of 154 witnesses.

To recall, the body of Mahant Narendra Giri was found hanging from the ceiling of a room in Shri Math Baghambari Gaddi under Georgetown police station in Prayagraj on September 20.

Later, an FIR was lodged against Anand Giri and two others under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Georgetown police station here.

The state government set up a Special Investigat­ing Team (SIT) to investigat­e the matter. However, subsequent­ly, the matter was handed over to the CBI. At present, the CBI is investigat­ing the mysterious death of Mahendra Narendra Giri.
