Police officials perform Bhumi Pujan for Magh Mela-2022

PRAYAGRAJ: Prayagraj police have started preparatio­ns for the coming Magh Mela set to begin in January 2022, with Bhumi Pujan at Mela Police Lines on Sunday.

ADG Prem Prakash, IG Rakesh Singh and SSP Sarvashres­htha Tripathi reached parade ground for the puja where Mahant of Bade Hanuman Temple Balbir Giri performed the religious rituals.

Officials performed ‘havan’ and prayed for peaceful conduct of the annual Magh Mela. Now police will speed up the necessary work for the fair. Constructi­on of makeshift police stations, police outposts, meeting halls etc will now gain pace. As no official has yet been appointed as Mela SP, SP Crime Satish Chandra will be the in-charge of the work, as he was earlier assigned duties during Kumbh-2013.

Wanted criminal nabbed with firearm

PRAYAGRAJ: Joint teams of Special Operation Group and Kareli police arrested a notorious criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his arrest. The criminal was arrested with a country made firearm and ammunition, police said.

SP crime Satish Chandra Kamlesh Kumar of Fatanpur area of Pratapgarh had cases lodged against him at Raniganj police station under Excise Act and other sections of IPC but he was continuous­ly on the run.

Pratapgarh police had declared a reward of Rs 25000 on his arrest. Kamlesh was hiding in Sangam area and living at Parade Ground. On Sunday, SOG team and Kareli police under SHO Anurag Sharma arrested Kamlesh when he went to Kareli to meet an aide. Pratapgarh police raided his hideout and recovered five drums of spirit which was being used to manufactur­e illicit liquor. Later, 38 more drums of spirit were as recovered from his house, the SP added. 0

Illicit liquor worth Rs 12 lakh seized

PRAYAGRAJ: Kokhraj police of Kaushambi seized a truck carrying illicit liquor worth around Rs 12 lakh. The people in the truck fled the scene and were being traced , police said.

According to reports, police checked a truck parked near Kokhraj police station on Prayagraj-Kanpur highway on Saturday night. Under the sacks of fruits, police found 130 cartons of illicit liquor made in Haryana. It is suspected that the driver left the truck fearing police checking or a scuffle with the owner. SHO Kokhraj Mahesh Chandra said registrati­on number of the truck was of Haryana on the basis of which its owner was being traced. The liquor smugglers would soon be nabbed, he added.
