NOW, BOOK TRAIN TICKETS FROM POST OFFICES IN VARANASI REGION
VARANASI: Now, booking of railway tickets can be done from the post offices too. The service will be available in all the 1,699 post offices of Varanasi Postal Region, said Krishna Kumar Yadav, postmaster general, Varanasi Region, after inaugurating the Dak Mela in Model Block, Sewapuri.
Yadav said the services of post offices are being expanded for the convenience of the public. In this sequence, now booking of railway tickets can be done at the post offices. This service will be available in departmental post offices as well as branch post offices located in villages.
Yadav said that the department of posts would provide this service through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). For this, the process of issuing user ID and passwords to the personnel of post offices is on after their training. “This facility will be made available in all the 1,699 post offices of Varanasi Postal Region and will reduce crowding at the Railway station counters,” Yadav said.
During the Dal Mela, Sukanya Samridhi accounts of 3000 girls were opened by the Varanasi (West) Postal Division by organising a special campaign. The postmaster general wished the girls a happy future while handing over the passbooks. Senior superintendent of post offices Rajan Rao and superintendent of posts offices Sanjay Kumar Verma were also present.
Postmaster general further said the department of post is providing the facility of digital life certificate at doorstep through postman via India Post Payments Bank to all the pensioners, who need to submit it in treasury or concerned department in November and December. The postman will generate the life certificate of pensioners through the biometric device at the doorstep, for which a fee of ₹70 will be charged, said Krishna Kumar Yadav.
Yadav said that Sewapuri in Varanasi is being developed as a model block by NITI Aayog.
