Double murder in Deoria over land row

GORAKHPUR : Two brothers were shot dead, and six others were injured over a land dispute in Chakra Nonar village of Barhaj police station limit in Deoria on Tuesday.

SP Deoria Sripati Mishra reached the district hospital to investigat­e the incident and meet the injured. Mishra said a police force of five police stations has been deployed in the village to maintain law and order.

Police have recovered a revolver used in the incident, one illegal pistol, and a bullet from the spot and has detained nine people.

One Lallan Yadav, brother of Bechu Yadav, had died, and for his Brahm bhoj (meal for a departed soul), people of his family were cleaning a piece of land on Tuesday morning. Bechu Yadav’s family has some dispute over this piece of land with their neighbour Baijnath Yadav’s family. Suddenly some people came and started firing on them in which eight people were injured, including Ramesh

Yadav, Kokil Yadav, Bechu Yadav, Laldhari Yadav, Anki, Shivannad Yadav and Devannad Yadav. The injured were rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared Ramesh Yadav and Kokil Yadav dead.

The kin of the deceased started protesting, demanding the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath and also an announceme­nt of financial assistance to the dependants of the deceased. The kin also refused to perform the last rites till the accused were arrested. But later, after the interventi­on of police officials, including that of CO Sriyash Tripathi and Inspector Anuj Kumar Singh, they agreed to the post-mortem and performing last rites.

“During a firing incident in a land dispute, two people died, and six were injured. The injured are undergoing treatment in the district hospital, and soon the accused will be arrested. Police and PAC forces have been deployed in the village to maintain law and order,” SP Deoria Sripti Mishra said.HTC
