LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Congress will launch a major campaign to enrol 10 million (one crore) members across the state on Constitution Day on November 26, just a few months ahead of the 2022 assembly elections in the state.

Addressing media persons, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Ajay Kumar Lallu and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ said the campaign will run for 15 days till December 10.

It proposes to enrol four new members per family, they said.

Lallu, who released a missed call number for the membership drive, said the drive was being launched following directives of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

He said the state Congress already had about 60 lakh members.

Those seeking new membership would have to mandatorily make a missed call on the number. He said five-member teams would be formed at every nyay panchayat and ward of the state.

Each team would be headed by an incharge, the UPCC chief said, adding that every team would make at least 25 members and there would be 23,000 membership incharges of the party in the state.

Mishra said the membership campaign would be launched in all villages, nyay panchayats, blocks, wards, cities and districts on Constitution Day.

She said the party would hold debates titled “Bhim Charcha” and dinners in every village and ward on the occasion.

The membership drive would be launched under the banner of “Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon” (I am a girl, I can fight) in all the girls’ schools and colleges to take the message of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to them, she said.
