Yoga not related to any sect, religion: President Kovind
HARIDWAR: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday asked people to adopt a lifestyle according to nature and do not violate natural laws as harmonious association of human with nature is the key goal of ayurveda and yoga.
He also asserted that “yoga is not related to any sect or religion” but it was a practice to make one healthy both mentally and physically.
President Kovind made the remark while attending the first convocation ceremony of University of Patanjali in Haridwar. On a two-day visit to the state, Kovind will attend the centenary celebration of Gayatri Teerth Shanti Kunj here on Monday.
Kovind also lauded University of Patanjali founder Swami Ramdev’s in popularising yoga worldwide.
“Innumerable people are benefiting from the art of yoga and through efforts of Indian government since 2016, June 21 got declared as International Yoga Day by United Nations. Yoga is not related to any sect, religion but it’s a practice to make one healthy both mentally and physically,” said the President. “In true sense, yoga is a method of keeping the body and mind healthy. That is why yoga has been adopted by people from all walks of life and ideology across the world.”
The President said modern medical science has made amazing progress in the field of treatment with the help of many tools. “However, ayurveda and yoga have deeply contemplated and researched best tool developed by the universe i.e. the human body. Harmonious association of human with the nature is the goal of Ayurveda and Yoga. And for this harmony, it is necessary that all of us adopt a lifestyle according to nature and do not violate the natural laws.”
President conferred degrees to 700 students and gold medals to 71 students of University of Patanjali at the convocation ceremony.
Earlier upon his arrival, governor Gurmeet Singh, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat welcomed the President.
