PM to gift ₹9,600-crore projects to east UP

GORAKHPUR: Projects worth Rs 9600 crore, including Fertilizer factory and AIIMS, will be dedicated to east UP by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will also address a rally on Manbela ground here on December 7.

Five year ago, on July 22, 2016, PM Modi had laid the foundation stone of these two projects during his poll rally in the run-up to the 2017 assembly elections.

The PM will also inaugurate nine laboratories at the regional medical research centre, BRD Medical College. “The public of Purvanchal is excited and happy as the PM is coming to gift them two important projects,”said BJP spokeperson Satendra Sinha.

Modi’s visit assumes much significance as UP elections are due early next year and east UP, including Gorakhpur, Basti, Azamgarh and Varanasi divisions, accounts for 164 assembly seats of which the BJP managed to win 115 in the last elections.

While AIIMS, the premier health Institute was a much needed project for eastern UP which is known for deadly diseases like encephalitis, the fertilizer factory, which was shut down following an accident in the early nineties, would boost the agriculture sector and generate jobs. The factory, with capacity of manufacturing 3850 metric tonnes of neem coated urea, has been set up afresh by Hindustan Urvarak Limited ( HURL) . Notably, as five-time MP of Gorakhpur, chief minister Yogi Adityanath remained vocal for revival of fertilizer factory in Gorakhpur.

After becoming CM, Yogi Adityanath ensured that the two key projects foundation stone of which was laid down by the PM, were completed expeditiously. In view of the PM’s visit, tight security arrangements have been made. The roads leading to the rally ground has been dotted with posters and banners with Modi’s image.
