Missing minor’s body recovered from trunk in neighbour’s house

MEERUT : A six-year-old girl was killed after sexual assault in city area of Hapur. The girl had gone missing on Thursday and her body, stuffed in a trunk, was recovered from the house of her neighbour on Saturday, said police.

The house owner was arrested and he later confessed to sexually assaulting and killing the girl.

ASP of Hapur Sarvesh Mishra said that the accused Amjad was father of two children and a drug addict. His wife and children had gone out and he was alone at home at the time of the crime. “He has confessed to sexually assaulting and killing the girl,” said Mishra and added that post mortem examinatio­n was being done by a team of doctors and the report was awaited.

He said that the girl had gone out to buy something from a shop on Thursday but didn’t return. Her family lodged a police complaint on

Friday after failing to locate her.

The house of the accused is situated barely 50 metres away from the girl’s house in the same street. His neighbours complained of stench coming out of his house on Saturday and informed police about it.

Mishra said that a field unit was sent which entered the house after breaking the lock of the main gate. Cops searched the house and found the body of the girl stuffed in a trunk.

The police team later arrested Amjad who is a labourer. Angry residents of the area tried to attack him but police saved him and brought him to the police station.
