Visiting mayors all praise for transformation of Kashi

VARANASI: Leelabai Laxman Ashan, mayor of Ulhasnagar municipality in Maharashtra, praised Varanasi’s development on Friday, calling it a “transformed city equipped with modern facilities.”
Ashan is in Varanasi to participate in the all India mayors; conference. “I visited the city several times since 2006. This is my sixth visit. It has been really transformed and equipped with many facilities. Roads and ghats are clean. Roads have been widened too,” she said.
She also visited Kashi Vishwanath Corridor; the grandeur of the corridor mesmerised her.
Hemali Kalpeshkumar Bhogawala, mayor of Surat in Gujarat, said that she visited Kashi over 10 years ago. Then the road leading to Kashi from the airport was in a bad condition. But now Kashi had been transformed.
“As soon as I came out of the airport, I felt the change. Now the road leading to Kashi from Varanasi airport is smooth and wide. I visited various areas and all were quite clean,” Bhogawala said.
Asked what inspired her the most which she would like to replicate in Surat, she said that she would go through the Kashi model of development and pick the best plan. She also said that she would find out if the ropeway project was feasible for a city like Surat.
A ropeway project has been approved for Kashi and would be implemented soon. She also said that she would work for conservation of the river near Surat.
