PRAYAGRAJ: Kin of a person who died during a clash over the removal of encroachment near his market staged a protest with his body at the Karbala police outpost on Friday evening. Samajwadi Party leader Richa Singh also reached the spot and alleged that police inaction resulted in the murder of the man. Senior officials reached the spot and pacified the enraged kin.

According to reports, Rajendra Kushwaha (46) owned a small market at Transport Nagar and lived on the upper floor of the same building. It is alleged that some persons had encroached upon the market and were running a tea stall and other kiosks. On Rajendra’s complaint, the Nagar Nigam team reached the spot to remove encroachments on Thursday but encroachers started a fight. A few hours later, Rajendra was assaulted by the encroachers resulting in his death on the spot.

Police reached the spot by the time the assailants fled. On Friday, Rajendra’s body was handed over to his kin after postmortem examination.

They reached the Karbala outpost and staged a protest demanding compensation and immediate action against the accused.

Circle Officer Santosh Kumar Singh reached the spot with administrative officials and pacified them.

Singh said that an FIR has been lodged against some persons on the complaint of Rajendra’s kin and raids were being carried out to arrest them. Security will be provided to the kin of the deceased and their memorandum of demands has been received, he added.
