E-mukhbir sewa: Prayagraj police release posters on social media, urge people to report crimes
PRAYAGRAJ: In a bid to encourage citizens to report crimes and illegal activities, Prayagraj police have released e-posters on social media platforms in which WhatsApp helpline number has been provided for reporting crimes.
The posters encourage people to report all kind of crimes, and one of the posters reads ‘real heroes are those who report crimes and help in their prevention’.
The campaign is the part of click and post ‘e-mukhbir sewa’ which was launched sometimes back on the initiative of senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sarvshrestha Tripathi.
Informing in detail about the initiative, Tripathi said, “The identity of the person who provides information on e-informer service is kept secret. The service is part of community policing and it has not only helped in controlling crimes but also bridged gap between the police and the public.”
According to the SSP, the service has helped a lot in preventing crimes and tracking activities of anti-social elements. Police have received several complaints from citizens on the given number (9918101617) which is for both--calling and WhatsApp and working out many of the cases.
“After receiving information, a team of cops carries out investigations and take appropriate action on the complaints and information received. Now, as the state Assembly polls are approaching near, we have once again released posters on social media platforms in a bid to promote the service and encourage citizens to help cops,” said the police official.
One of the posters advises people not to become part of the crowd and immediately inform cops if they witness a crime. Another poster reads ‘your phone can make you a real hero’. “Inform police about crimes including gambling, illegal liquor, illegal mining, flesh trade, extortion, hooliganism etc through click and post e-mukhbir sewa. The name of the informant will be kept secret as helping citizens is responsibility of police,” another poster reads.
Citizens can also report about terrorist activities, religious extremism, organised crimes and incidents like eve teasing, woman harassment, stalking, drugs, smuggling of sedatives etc.
