BJP, Cong launch selection process
DEHRADUN: The ruling BJP and main opposition Congress have started process to select their candidates for the 2022 state assembly election.
BJP national president JP Nadda will be visiting the state on December 26 during which he will hold meetings with party state leaders and take their feedback on probable candidates in each of the 70 seats.
A senior state BJP leader, wishing not be named, said, “This time, Nadda will be visiting the state completely for organisational purpose. It won’t have any public meeting or rally as part of the election campaign.”
“During his visit, he will be holding several meetings in Dehradun with party leaders especially those who were part of a special team to collect report about probable candidates in all the 70 assembly seats. They will submit the report to Nadda during his visit.”
The leader said the BJP national president has asked the above-mentioned leaders to “give an accurate report”.
“It is to ensure that the party gives ticket to only those candidates who can win and help the party break the anti-incumbency factor.
He will analyse report of all the 70 seats and then chalk out further strategy as per requirement,” said the leader.
BJP state president Madan Kaushik also confirmed his visit.
He said, “This time, Nadda will be only holding party meetings and not any public events or rallies. He will also offer tips to the state leadership to make the campaign more effective.”
Meanwhile, Congress central screening committee led by their All India Congress Committee leader Avinash Pande is in Uttarakhand to decide their candidates for the election. On Monday, Pande and his other committee members held a meeting in Haldwani during which they discussed the candidature on 40 seats.
“We are carrying the process as per the party norms by interviewing all the probable candidates. We want to ensure that the tickets are given to only those who can win. We have almost completed the process in 40 of the 70 seats,” said Pande.
“The Congress would likely release its list of candidates in the first week of January.”
