DEHRADUN: BJP youth wing national president and parliamentarian Tejasvi Surya on Tuesday urged the people of the state to support the BJP in the upcoming assembly election to “save Hindutva and Uttarakhand’s culture”.

The Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) chief made the statement while addressing a gathering following a bike rally by BJYM in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal district in presence of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other BJP leaders.

“Today, districts bordering neighbouring Uttar Pradesh are witnessing a large scale settlement… They are taking up menial jobs in those districts and buying land to change demography of this sacred land,” said Surya.

“I want to tell the people of Uttarakhand that if they want to save Hindutva and Garhwali and Kumaoni cultures, then it is important to support the BJP.”

His statement comes months after the BJP government had passed an order in September in which it had stated that “due to unprecedented rise in population in certain areas of the state, the demography of those areas has been majorly affected.”

The BJP leader also lashed out at the Congress for “insulting arm”. “Today, the country and the state have only two options - BJP and Congress. But there is a difference between the cultures of both. In the BJP, we give utmost respect to the army as a result, our government is building Sainya Dham in Dehradun for which I sent 400 saplings by air from Bengaluru. On the other hand, Congress leaders called our first CDS General Bipin Rawat a rowdy which shows their culture. People can never support such a party which insults army,” said Surya.

“The BJP is the only party in India which is a party of patriots. Unlike the Congress, which is a party of one family, ours is a party of workers where a member hailing from a normal family can become party state chief or chief minister.”

Dhami said: “...Now, when the elections are coming, the Congress leaders have suddenly come up just to seek votes. It is a party which only works for money and misleads people with false promises.”

Congress president Ganesh Godiyal said: “This is BJP’s modus operandi. Whenever it fears loss in elections, it does communal politics. However, people of Uttarakhand are smart enough to not fall in their trap.”
