Rawat kicks off Samman yatra in Haridwar dist

-

HARIDWAR: The Congress on Tuesday launched Haridwar Samman Yatra in Haridwar district, where BJP’s “Vijay Sankalp Yatra” is underway.

Former chief minister Harish Rawat flagged off the yatra from Bhagwanpur in presence of large number of Congress workers.

The yatra will cover all the district’s 11 assembly segments Bhagwanpur, Haridwar city, Haridwar rural, Laksar, Jwalapur, Ranipur-BHEL, Piran Kaliyar, Roorkee, Khanpur, Manglaur and Jhabreda - in a week. Claiming party will win maximum seats from Haridwar district, Rawat lashed at the BJP’s “double engine” government, alleging both the engines have failed to usher in development be at Centre or in the state.

“If the BJP-led state government had provided good governance, then BJP won’t have felt the need to change three chief ministers in a span of just 4.5 years. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at Dehradun early this month and ongoing Vijay Sankalp Yatra has failed to draw masses while Rahul Gandhi’s rally last week and today’s Samman rally attendance point to pro-Congress wave in the state,” said Rawat. On the BJP’s 60 plus seat win target, Rawat said it will remain an unachievable dream as the Congress will steer to majority this time.

BJP leader Aadesh Chauhan, who also represents RanipurBHEL in the state assembly, said the Congress’ Haridwar Samman rally won’t much difference as the party is a sinking ship not only in Haridwar but across the whole state.

“Harish Rawat lost from Haridwar rural seat in last assembly election, so he should first think of winning a seat for himself. It is ironic that the Congress has made him assembly election campaign committee chairman as he had lost election from two seats last time, which shows of lack of leadership face in the Congress,” said the two-time BJP MLA.
