Two arrested for 17-yrold girl’s murder

PRAYAGRAJ : Handia police arrested two persons in connection with the brutal killing of a 17-year-old girl who was murdered at Pahadpur village under Handia police station of transGanga area of the district on Friday night. The body of the girl with her throat slit was found in an orchard on Saturday morning. The girl’s alleged boyfriend and his brother-in-law were arrested by police and the knife used in the murder have been recovered, police officials said.

According to reports, Rana Pratap Yadav works in Gujarat while his family lives at his native village Pahadpur. Yadav’s 17-year-old daughter Namrata was the eldest among her siblings and was a class eleven student at a nearby intermedia­te college.

Namrata’s kin informed the police that she and other members of the family were watching television till late at night and then went to sleep. Early on Saturday morning, villagers spotted the body of a girl lying in the orchard and raised an alarm. The body was identified as that of Namrata by her kin. SP transGanga Abhishek Agarwal said based on call details and other evidence, the girl’s boyfriend Shivkumar Pal (19) of Rahimapur village in the Jhunsi area and his brother-in-law Deepchandr­a Pal (34) of Uttraon area were nabbed on suspicion.

During questionin­g, Shivkumar Pal confessed to murdering with the help of Deepchandr­a. He informed police that Namrata used to visit her aunt at Rahimapur village where she came in contact with him around three years back. He also gave the mobile to her and visited her often. Recently Namrata started pressuring him for marriage and threatened to implicate him if he refused. As Namrata was of another caste, Shivkumar was not ready to marry her. On the night of December 24, Shivkumar called Namrata to the orchard and slashed her throat with a knife. He then fled with Deepchandr­a who was waiting nearby on his motorcycle. Meanwhile, Shivkumar claimed that he was suspicious that she had an affair with another youth.
