VARANASI: Sampurnanand Sanskrit University (SSU) is set to start online courses on Sanskrit, Veda and ancient Indian polity soon.

The move is aimed at promoting learning of Sanskrit, ved-vedanga (theology), prachin rajshastra (ancient Indian polity) and arthshastra (economics) in the world, vice chancellor prof Hareram Tripathi said on Sunday. Talking to media persons, prof Tripathi said “going digital” was the need of the hour.

“This is the digital era. SSU’s library is being digitised. Online courses on Sanskrit, Ved-Vedanga and few other subjects will be started so that those who want to study Sanskrit language and Vedas may learn from anywhere across the globe,” he said.

“People across the globe also want to study ancient Indian polity and economics as well as theology and that is why we plan to start online courses on these subjects too,” he said. He said online courses will encourage more people to learn Sanskrit.

Prof Tripathi said that he would urge the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government that is led by CM Yogi Adityanath to provide high speed internet facility to SSU to promote online teaching of Sanskrit and other ancient Indian subjects. “At first online diploma and post graduate diploma courses in Sanskrit and other subjects will be started. After seeing the response, degree courses too would be introduced online,” he added.
