People rush for tests, over 83,500 tested in 10 days of 2022 in Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ: The rising number of Covid-19 cases in Prayagraj has resulted in a rise in the rush at the Covid-19 testing centres too, with people turning up in large numbers to get tested and confirm that they are free from Coronaviru­s.

District medical and health department officials said that the first 10 days of 2022 have witnessed more than 83,500 Coronaviru­s tests being conducted while 928 people have been found infected during this period—with a maximum of 220 fresh cases being found just on Monday (January 10).

Officials said that the district started witnessing the emergence of fresh cases on a regular basis from December 29, 2021. As on January 10 evening, the count of active Covid-19 cases stood at 920.

“Covid-19 tests in the district have witnessed a rise right since the resurgence of the positive cases in Prayagraj. We have tested over 83,550 individual­s between January 1 and January 10 with a maximum on January 3 (Monday) numbering 11,468,” Dr Nanak Saran, CMO, Prayagraj, said.

According to the district medical and health department data, January 1 saw 6,426 tests being conducted and 20 cases being found, January 2 witnessed 5,273 tests being conducted and 19 new cases being discovered followed by January 3 and January 4 when against 11,468 and 9,250 tests were conducted, respective­ly, and 14 and 31 new cases were found, respective­ly.

Likewise, 8,790 tests were conducted and 136 new cases were found on January 5 while on January 6, 70 new cases were found against 8,233 tests.

On January 7 and January 8, 7,895 and 9,403 tests were conducted in the district and 118 and 163 new cases were discovered, respective­ly.

On January 9 and January 10 also another 6,856 and 9,957 tests were conducted and 137 and 220 fresh cases were found in Prayagraj district, informed Dr AK Tiwari, district Covid-19 nodal officer, Prayagraj.
