Identifyin­g criminal elements, trouble makers ahead of polls

PRAYAGRAJ: ‘Operation Chakravyuh’ has been launched on the instructio­ns of SSP, Prayagraj, Ajay Kumar, to make sustained efforts to nab criminals and suspects of serious crimes with an aim to control crimes ahead of state assembly elections.

The drive also aims to control youngsters on high-speed bikes, endangerin­g lives on city streets.

However, the police are not bothering common citizens, especially women and aged persons, as per instructio­ns issued and are mainly focusing their attention on individual­s aged between 18 and 30 to identify trouble-makers.

‘Operation Chakravyuh’ has been launched across the district including in remote rural areas. Police has been asked to launch intensive checking drives at different crossings under their jurisdicti­ons after installing barriers. Youths aged 18 to 30 on motorcycle­s will be on the target of the police and appropriat­e action will be taken against those found not wearing helmets, triple riding and not carrying relevant documents of their vehicles. Youths and their vehicles will be searched in a bid to find if they are carrying firearms, drugs or any other objectiona­ble material.

Police at bordering police stations have been told to remain extra cautious.

They have been asked to check all vehicles including cars and their owners before they enter Prayagraj.

However, the SSP cautioned policemen not to bother other citizens especially women and aged persons. SSP said that strict action should be ensured against criminals, trouble makers, smugglers and youths involved in over speeding etc but ordinary citizens should not be harassed at any cost.

Kumar further said that besides checking drives, all circle officers, inspectors and SHOs should also carry out foot patrolling in crowded places and markets etc and conduct checking for 20 minutes at each crossing. The report of the checking drives will be reviewed each day at 10 pm, he added.
