UP dy CM Keshav Maurya faces protest in Kaushambi

PRAYAGRAJ: UP deputy chief minister and BJP candidate from Sirathu assembly seat of Kaushambi district, Keshav Prasad Maurya on Saturday faced protests and opposition from locals when he went to meet family members of Rajiv Maurya, a missing BJP leader who is also husband of a sitting Zila Panchayat member at Ghulamipur village.

As soon as the deputy CM came out of the house after meeting the kin, , he had to face heavy opposition from locals. People started shouting and hooting. The police had to struggle to get the deputy chief minister out.

As per reports, Rajiv Maurya has been missing from January 20 and his vehicle was found abandoned near a roadside dhaba on NH 2 under Kokhraj police station. Though police scrutinize­d CCTV camera recordings, they are yet to trace him. Rajiv Maurya’s family members were sitting on a protest dharna at their house when the deputy CM went to meet them..

A close aide of Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “The deputy CM met Rajiv’s wife Poonam Maurya and consoled her, saying that the police would soon trace Rajiv Maurya. The deputy CM has also asked the police to act fast and find the missing leader.”

Maurya said that Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was purposely hiding the names of his party’s candidates because by announcing the names it would become evident how many goons, mafia and corrupt people had been given tickets by the SP.

During his election campaign in Sirathu on Saturday, the deputy CM claimed that the public wanted to know the truth as to

how many criminals, goons and mafias had been fielded by SP in the coming UP assembly elections.

He also claimed that ‘Kamal’ (lotus) would bloom in the state at any cost.

Maurya started his campaign by worshiping Goddess Sheetla Maa at her temple along with his wife. His programme was delayed by the weather by around two hours.
