Dehradun Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi by accusing him of “buying two luxury planes worth ₹16,000 cr for himself instead of clearing payment dues of ₹14,000 cr to the country’s sugarcane farmers”.

Gandhi was addressing a virtual rally from Dehradun.

“The total payment due to sugarcane farmers of the country is ₹14,000 cr. But Modi bought two planes for himself worth ₹16,000 cr. He could have used the amount to pay the farmers but he didn’t because this government don’t think about their welfare,” said Gandhi.

“The price of fuel has increased in a steep manner which is also badly affecting the farmers. But the government is providing no relief to them.”

“After the first wave of Covid-19 infection, the government had a year for preparations before the second wave struck. But during that time, it exported medical oxygen and vaccines. And when the second wave hit the nation, the government was left with nothing to tackle it, causing lakhs of deaths,” she said.

The Congress leader also accused the BJP of trying to “mislead the people from actual issues of price rise, unemployment and poverty by speaking on religion and castes”.

“They always try to create a rift in the society for cheap political gains. It will never lead to the development of country as unless and until the country is united and living in harmony, it can’t develop. People need to be wary of these leaders and question them on what they did to provide jobs, controlling price rise and curbing poverty. They should not throw away their precious vote and question the ruling party that why should they vote them?” said Gandhi.

On the union budget, she said, “The government reduced the price of diamonds but increased the price of medicines which just shows their mindset against the poor and common man.”

Urging the people to vote for the Congress in the upcoming state assembly election, she said, “The forthcoming election will be deciding the future of Uttarakhand. Hence, we urge you to vote for the Congress which is the only party which will work for the poor and the oppressed ones by fulfilling the promises made by it.”

BJP state president Madan Kaushik said, “The Congress has lost its ground in the state political scenario as the people have rejected it completely. The BJP governments in both Centre and state have carried significant development works for which the people will shower their blessings again on BJP in the upcoming elections.”
