Tata group excited to make AI the airline of choice: Ratan Tata

NEW DELHI: ‘Tata Group is excited to work together to make Air India the airline of choice in terms of passenger comfort and service’. This is an audio message from Ratan Tata played onboard some Air India flights.

Tata Group completed the takeover of the loss-making Air India on January 27.

On Wednesday, the airline tweeted a 19-second video with the message of Ratan Tata.

“#FlyAI: A warm welcome extended by Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons, Chairman, Tata Trusts, to our passengers onboard Air India flights,” the tweet said.

An airline official said the message was played in some flights in the last few days.

“The Tata Group welcomes Air India’s new customers and is excited to work together to make Air India the airline of choice in terms of passenger comfort and service,” Ratan Tata said in the message.

Through a competitiv­e bidding process, the government sold Air India to Talace Pvt Ltd, part of Tata Group, for ₹18,000 crore. As part of the deal, Talace paid ₹2,700 crore in cash and took over ₹15,300 crore debt of the airline.

Under the deal, Talace has acquired Air India, Air India Express and a 50% stake in AISATS.

Meanwhile, Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL) on Wednesday reported a 22.19% jump in its consolidat­ed net profit to ₹290.07 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2021. The company had posted a net profit of ₹237.38 crore in the correspond­ing quarter last year, said TCPL, earlier known as Tata Global Beverages Ltd, in a BSE filing.

Its revenue from operations during October-December 2021 rose 4.52% to ₹3,208.38 crore, compared with ₹3,069.56 crore in the year-ago period.

Total expenses of the Tata Group’s FMCG arm stood at ₹2,832.68 crore in the December 2021 quarter, a rise of 1.5% as against ₹2,790.72 crore a year ago.
