HARIDWAR/PITHORAGARH: Questioning the Congress idea of having a Muslim university in Uttarakhand, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said on Saturday the move is aimed at appeasing the minority community for gains in the assembly polls .

Such an institution in the hill state, known as Devbhoomi (land of deities) having numerous Hindu pilgrimage shrines, will create disharmony and division among the local residents who are peace loving, Vijayvargiya said, addressing media persons.

“What’s the need of having a Muslim university? it’s solely an idea to lure minority voters by Congress leaders and to present themselves as their caretakers. But the BJP opposes any such idea; we don’t want another Muslim educational institute where slogans in praise of Pakistan are raised,” he said.

A few days ago Congress leader from Shahspur Akeel Ahmed had told media persons that he has held talks with senior Congress leaders, including former chief minister Harish Rawat, regarding setting up of a Muslim university in the state,if the Congress comes to power in Uttarakhand.

Addressing a poll meeting in Pithoragarh, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “Congress is out to appease the minority community by promising to open a Muslim university in the state, if it is voted to power. It has always done appeasement politics to garner votes during polls.”

He said, “BJP has worked to develop all sections of the society as it believes in Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP government has carried out significant development works including the reconstruction of Kedarnath after the 2013 tragedy and Char Dham all-weather road.”

Objecting to the recent speech given by Congress national general secretary Rahul Gandhi in the budget session of parliament, Vijayvargiya said that Rahul’s speech “goes against the very constitution of one India and maintaining the dignity of the judiciary.”

“For Congress there may be two Indias but for us and the countrymen there is only one federal India. Under the BJP government, India has strongly defended its boundaries and taken a tough stance on foreign policy. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi ,India carried out surgical strikes and also didn’t allow nefarious designs of Chinese People’s Liberation Army in Doklam, Barahoti and Galawan valley to succeed.”

Congress state vice president Surendra Kumar said, “BJP has nothing to show before the public in the polls because actually it did nothing. That is the reason they are raking communal issues of Hindu-Muslim and Mandir-Masjid. But people are smart enough to reject its false propaganda and throw it out of power on February 14.”
