HARIDWAR/DEHRADUN: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Thursday said the BJP, Congress and other political parties are pro-capitalist, but her party, without relying on funding from capitalists, caters to the poor, farmers and suppressed sections of the society.

Addressing a rally at Roorkee in Haridwar, her first for the February 14 state polls, Mayawati said other political parties formulate economic policies that suit corporates and rich. “These parties are not formulating policies to help the poor, farmers, labourers and common man. BSP will use political power to improve the lives of people. It has done it in the past. All sections of society will be catered to in a BSP government,” she said.

Referring to the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh when she was the CM, Mayawati said she had given major emphasis on issues related to Uttarakhand. She said people are fed up with the “ill governance and divisive politics” of the BJP and are now looking towards the BSP in the assembly polls for developmentoriented governance for all.

Earlier in the day, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan campaigned in the Haridwar rural assembly segment. Chauhan said, “Rahul Gandhi keeps saying that PM Narendra Modi has created two Indias, but the fact is it was Jawaharlal Nehru who created two Indias -- India and Pakistan.”

He said when China occupied some India territory in 1962, Nehru had said nothing grows there. He said this time, Harish Rawat’s daughter has been given a Congress ticket. “Their politics is dominated by dynastic and appeasement politics.”
