CAUTIONING PEOPLE AGAINST THE RETURN OF THE CONGRESS TO POWER, PM SAID THE “PARTY ONLY MEANS CORRUPTION.”

DEHRADUN: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused the Congress of dividing people on caste, region and religion lines, and said that the BJP government has carried out the development of Uttarakhand without any discrimination.

“In last five years of the BJP government in Uttarakhand, significant development works have been carried out in the state. It is because development happens only when work is done without any discrimination, which is evident in BJP’s principle of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas,” Modi said, addressing a rally in Almora district.

“However, the approach of the Congress is known to all. Their formula is ‘Sab mein dalo phoot, Mil kar karo loot’ (Divide everyone and loot together). They have done this not only in Uttarakhand but in the whole country...They divide people on the lines of caste, creed, religion, language, and also pit one state against the other...Not only this, when inside the states, they even divide areas and fields,” PM said, attacking the Congress on the second consecutive day of his campaign for the February 14 state assembly polls.

The prime minister addresses a rally in Almora on Friday.

Rekha Arya and Almora MP Ajay Tamta, among others, were present at the rally. On Thursday, Modi addressed a rally in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal.

“Here the Congress has divided the people into plain vs hills and Garhwal vs Kumaon. But our double-engine government, without any such discrimination, has tried to do double development works in both Kumaon and Garhwal regions. For us the whole state is Devbhoomi,” Modi said.

He took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi for visiting the state for Congress’ poll campaign.

“Imagine the state of the country’s oldest political party. Other than the two siblings, none of their leaders are coming to Uttarakhand to seek votes from the people. They had so many former Central ministers,

MPs and other senior leaders over the last 50-60 years, but none of them could be seen here. Only the two siblings are visiting the state because they only want to protect their family,” said Modi. “They are left with nothing which can be useful for the general public...Then what is the use of going to them...That’s is why, I urge you to support BJP on February 14 to ensure the present decade becomes Uttarakhand’s decade in the country.”

Modi accused the Congress of neglecting the issue of migration and development of border areas. “When they were in power, they never paid any heed to the migration issue in Uttarakhand. They were only bothered to pay their respects to the Delhi Durbar (Congress central leadership)... But the BJP government under young CM Pushkar Singh

Dhami has worked to curb migration and promote tourism,” the PM said.

“For the development of border areas of Uttarakhand, the Centre in this year’s general budget, while focusing on the state, has made Vibrant Village scheme. Under the scheme the government will work to provide water, electricity, internet, mobiles and other necessary facilities so that the people don’t migrate from there and tourists are also attracted towards those areas.”

Cautioning people against the return of the Congress to power, he said the “party only means corruption.”

“If the Congress comes to power, it will stop all these (schemes) and demand ‘cut money’ from the people to provide these facilities. Hence, you should ensure that it does not return to power,” said Modi.

Congress leader Dhirendra Pratap Singh said: “The people of Uttarakhand are not falling for his lies anymore. In the last five years, the BJP government did nothing except increasing unemployment and price rise due to which people suffered the most. They are waiting to throw them out of power on February 14.”
