3 members of copying gang arrested
VARANASI: STF Varanasi unit has arrested three persons of a gang allegedly involved in helping candidates cheat using electronic devices in the sub-inspector recruitment examination held in November last year.
The three accused were arrested from Nuaon underpass in Chitaipur police station area here on Sunday, police said.
Two SUVs, admit cards of 12 candidates related to the UP police sub-inspector examination have been recovered from their possession, said a senior police officer.
The arrested accused have been identified as Dharmraj Yadav, a resident of Mirzapur, Pushpraj Singh, a resident of Prayagraj, and Prabhakar Patel, a resident of an area under Soraon police station of Prayagraj.
STF Varanasi unit additional superintendent of police, Vinod Kumar Singh, said that during the sub-inspector recruitment examination in November 2021, three candidates were arrested with electronic devices.
During interrogation, they revealed that a gang helped them get the electronic devices.
Thereafter a team was deployed to ensure the arrest of the gang members. On getting information about the presence of the gang members in Chitaipur area, the team arrested the three accused.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that the wigs, equipped with an electronic device, were provided by two persons. The candidates, in touch with the gang, were asked to buy two SIM cards each.
One SIM was inserted in a device inside the wig, while the other SIM was inserted in the mobile phone in possession of the solver, who was present at some distance from the examination centre.
A microphone, connected to the device in the wig, was placed inside the ear of the candidate. After this, the online questions were made available to the solvers by two persons.
The solver kept the mobile phones of the candidates connected to the device in the wig and thus was able to provide answers to the questions. Two persons used to charge around ₹1 lakh for a wig.
