Harish Rawat promises panel to probe ‘corrupt deeds’ of BJP CMs
DEHRADUN: Congress national general secretary and former chief minister Harish Rawat on Saturday evening said that if voted to power, the Congress-led government will “form an inquiry commission to probe the corruption deeds of all the BJP CMs till date.”
Rawat, who is also the chairman of Congress state election campaign committee, made the promise hours after CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday morning said that, “If BJP returns to power, then it will immediately form an expert committee to form the draft of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state.” Accusing the former and BJP led state governments of “rampant corruption” in the state citing documents shown to him by his chief advisor Chandrashekhar Pandit Bhubaneswar Dayal Upadhyay (Chandrasekhar Upadhyay), Rawat said, “After the documents shown to me by Upadhayay, it has been proved that the BJP government was going to make holy Ganga a market.”
“The BJP government in a deal with a liquor syndicate, planned to change the course of Ganga at multiple places in the state to set up several power plants. The syndicate had planned to then sell power generated from those plants outside Uttarakhand to mint profit.”
“Not only this, the BJP government had also done a deal with a factory owner to give Ganga on lease to him for a project under which he would have bottled the holy water to sell in the market. But both these plans were rolled back by then BJP governments after Chandrasekhar Upadhayay stopped them, forcing them to roll back the plans,” alleged Rawat. He also attacked the BJP for doing “Covid-19 test scam in last year’s Haridwar Mahakumbh near Ganga.”
Rawat added, “The BJP had played with the sentiments of lakhs of devotees attached with Maa Ganga. It has now no right to speak on Ganga. After coming to power, our first move will be to constitute the commission to probe the above-mentioned corruption by the BJP CMs and their governments.”
On February 8, Chandrasekhar Upadhyay, a former chief justice in a sessions court in UP, issued the warning to BJP to stop the personal attacks on Rawat over “his promise to open a Muslim university, if the party come to power” or else he would “expose all the BJP CMs on their corruption deeds.”
Upadhayay who has also been the Additional Advocate General of Uttarakhand during first CM ND Tiwari and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former CMs in BJP government in UttarakhandRamesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Maj Gen BC Khanduri (retd) while speaking to the reporter said, “The ruling BJP has nothing to speak on the development in its five years of tenure. Hence, making personal attacks on Rawat in these elections.”
“I am asking the BJP state leadership to control its leaders and stop them from making personal attacks on Rawat. If they fail to do so, then I along with him (Rawat) will hold a press conference in Dehradun and expose every BJP former CMs including, Nishank, Khanduri, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Tirath Singh Rawat and present CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on their corruption,” he said.
Upadhayay added, “I know every bit of the corruption committed by the BJP CMs as I have been a part of the organisation for long. In the press conference, I will reveal all the evidence along with facts and figures to expose the BJP CMs.”
He accused the BJP of “raking up unnecessary issues like Muslim university.”
“It was mentioned by a very small leader of Congress while speaking to a portal. But the BJP picked it up and raked it while making personal attacks on Rawat who only wants to work for the state. If they are hell bent on doing Hindutva politics, then I want to tell them that no family has given more sacrifices on Hindutva than mine. It’s our fourth generation who had made sacrifices for the ideology,” said Upadhayay.
