Ex-MLA booked for asking supporters to lure voters with liquor, cash

PRAYAGRAJ: The Manda police lodged an FIR for violation of model code of conduct and other sections against former MLA Ramsewak Patel. Police registered the case after a video of Patel went viral on social media in which he is appealing to supporters to lure voters through liquor, cash, shoes, slippers, etc to ensure the victory of the BJP candidate in state assembly elections.

Sub-inspector at Manda police station, Ram Bahadur Singh, in his complaint said that the police received a video in which former MLA Ramsewak Patel is addressing around 150 supporters at the BJP office in Chaukatha area. He can be heard instructin­g workers to use liquor, cash, shoes, slippers, etc to ensure victory at the booth level. The former MLA is also seen advising supporters to use violence and other illegal means for victory, if needed.

SSP Ajay Kumar said that taking cognizance of the video, an

FIR has been lodged under various sections of the IPC, violation of model code of conduct and Covid-19 guidelines. On the basis of the video, investigat­ions are being carried out, he added.

Ramsewak Patel was in the Samajwadi Party earlier and had a similar case lodged against him and 250 supporters.
