HARIDWAR: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has claimed that it can emerge as a kingmaker in the state after assembly election results are out on March 10.

BSP state president Sheeshpal Singh, while reviewing the recently concluded assembly polling in the state, said: “The BSP is in a strong position once again after debacle in 2017 when party couldn’t win a single seat, but now in 2022 again party will emerge in such a position that no other political party will be able to form government without support of the BSP-.”

Singh has contested the polls from Jwalapur segment in Haridwar district.

Claiming the BSP winning about 8-10 assembly segments in the state, Singh said that party will replicate the success of 2002 and 2007 assembly polls this time. Citing pan-India antiBJP wave, farmer unrest and divisive polarisation policy of the BJP, Singh said the BSP to be again in position of kingmaker.

“Double engine governance of BJP has failed and successful election campaign by BSP president Mayawati has led to impact on voters in Uttarakhand towards the BSP once again. We are winning at least 8-10 seats in the state,” he said.

BJP district president Jay Pal Sing Chauhan termed the BSP state president’s claims of being integral in formation of the next government in the state as “day dreaming”.

“When the BJP is getting 60 plus seats where is scope of parties like BSP, Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, Aam Aadmi Party or Samajwadi Party to win. These parties polled blank in last Assembly election, this time too the score will get repeated, even Congress will be in single digits as voters has enthusiastically voted for BJP’s developmentoriented governance,” said Chauhan.
