RUDRAPUR: A man allegedly slit the throat of his wife and mother-in-law with a sharp weapon in Jaspur area of US Nagar district on Sunday, said police.

According to police, he committed the crime since both used to pressurise him to leave his bad habits and immoral activities. “We are yet to get complaint from deceased’s relatives against the accused. However, we have sent teams to Uttar Pradesh for his arrest,” said JS Deopa, in-charge, Jaspur police station.

Police were informed on Sunday morning that a double murder has been committed in Natha Singh Colony of Jaspur around 75-km from here. When police rushed to the spot, the house was found locked. Police entered the house after breaking the lock and found two bodies lying in separate rooms, with lot of blood on the floor.

The deceased have been identified as Nishu Devi, 40 and Jayanti Devi, 65. Police said according to neighbour the crime was allegedly committed by Nikhil alias Sonu, Nishu’s husband. Sonu and his wife had heated exchange of words on Saturday night over his bad habits.

Sonu’s first wife had divorced him over his bad habits a few years ago. He married Nishu of Tanda Afzal in Moradabad.

Sonu after committing crime went to her sister Soni, who lives in Amroha and left children there before fleeing. Soni alerted her relatives in Jaspur to inform the police about the crime.

“Sonu used to bring girls into house and my daughter used to stop him. Last week he brought a girl and a fight erupted between Sonu and Nishu. Nishu had brought her mother Jayanti as she feared of getting beaten up by her husband,” said Vir Singh, father of Nishu.
