VARANASI : The gold covered inner walls of the sanctum sanctorum of Kashi Vishwanth temple have become a centre of attraction among devotees.

According to the temple’s public relations officer Piyush Tiwari, a businessman, who is also a devotee of Baba Kashi

Vishwanath, donated around 60 kg gold for covering the walls of the temple’s ‘garbh griha’ (sanctum sanctorum). Out of that, around 37 kg gold has been used in covering the inner walls of the sanctum sanctorum, Tiwari said. The businessman, from south India, wanted to remain anonymous. He made the donation some time back. The exact date was not revealed.

The images of deities, engraved on the walls of the sanctum sanctorum, have become very clear following the gold covering work.

A senior official said the remaining 23 kg gold will be used to cover the lower portion of golden dome of the temple (which is not covered with gold yet) and also for covering the ‘chaukhat’ of the temple gates. The work will begin after Mahashivratri.

Pintoo Chauhan, a resident of Khajuri in Varanasi, said that the gold covering of the walls of sanctum sanctorum is a wonderful work. “We are thankful to the devotee who donated the gold,” he said. Vijay Yadav Ballu, Tripurari Mishra and Anil Mishra, residents of Pandepur, also praised the golden work, saying that it was a centre of attraction among the devotees.

PM Narendra Modi visited the temple on February 27 to offer prayers to Baba Kashi Vishwanath. He, too, was all praise for the golden work. “This is amazing and wonderful,” Modi had said.
