Now, Kendriya Vidyalayas to admit kids who lost parents to Covid
PRAYAGRAJ : Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has decided to give free admission to those children who have lost both their parents to the Covid-19 pandemic in the last two years, KVS officials in the know about the development say. The decision comes following Centre’s directives to KVS to give admissions to such children across the country under the PM Cares for Children Scheme.
The scheme is aimed at ensuring comprehensive care and protection of these children and enable their wellbeing through health insurance, empowering them through education and equipping them for self-sufficient existence with financial support on reaching 23 years of age.
“These kids would be admitted in different classes as per their age and their admission would be over and above the strength of the respective classes,” KVS officials said. Moreover, they would be provided education free of cost right from class 1 to class 12 wherein they would be exempted from tuition fee, Vidyalya Vikas Nidhi (VVN) charges etc.
“The admission under this category would be given by the KV concerned on the recommendation of the district magistrate of the district concerned. The DM can recommend a maximum of 10 students per school with a rider of two students per class,” the officials said.
Confirming the development, assistant commissioner, KVS Varanasi region, B Dayal said, “The DM of the district concerned has been given the list of the children who are eligible to get the benefits as per the scheme and KVs would admit such kids as per the recommendation of the DM.”
To implement the decision of the government, the admission guidelines of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan have also been amended. The additional clause mentions giving admission to such children who have lost both of their parents, adoptive parents or legal guardians to the pandemic.
The deputy commissioner (academics) of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has instructed all the regional offices about the admission under the “PM Cares for Children scheme”. The letter mentions that regional offices should instruct the principals under their regions to coordinate with the respective DMs so that such children can be granted admission.
A list of 4,058 registered eligible beneficiaries under PM Cares Children Scheme has also been received from Union Ministry of Education and which has now been shared with principals of the KVs through their respective ROs.
An official of the region would be designated as nodal officer for coordination with stakeholders for admission of the children under the scheme. District officials say there are around a dozen children from Prayagraj who are eligible to be admitted under the initiative.
KVs or Kendriya Vidyalayas are a network of around 1,240 schools in India and three abroad (Kathmandu, Tehran and Moscow) having over 13 lakh students and 48,314 employees run by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and functioning under 25 regional offices spread across the country.
There are nine KVs in the Prayagraj district alone. The other cities which have KVs under Varanasi regional office include Mughalsarai, Ballia, Chitrakoot, Varanasi (4), Deoria,
Azamgarh, Basti, Salempur, Chopan, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur (2), Mau, Rihand Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Sultanpur, Gonda, Mankapur, Kushinagar, Siddharthnagar, Mirzapur, Amethi and Bhadohi.
