Teen loses hand while ‘playing’ with crude bomb

PRAYAGRAJ : A 14-year-old boy lost his hand while playing with a crude bomb, which he assumed to be a ball, at Kapuri Ka Pura village, under the transYamun­a Meja police station area, on Monday.

The injured boy was admitted to hospital while police officials reached the spot with a forensic team and carried out investigat­ions.

According to reports, Rahul, aka Kallu, was playing with other children near his house on Monday morning when he spotted a ball-like item inside a polythene bag, lying inside a dried up pond. Rahul picked up the ball and tossed it in the air. However, the ball exploded resulting in serious injuries to Rahul’s hand. Locals rushed Rahul to the CHC where the doctors referred him to SRN Hospital for treatment.

SHO, Meja, Tushar Dutt Tyagi said primary investigat­ions suggest that it was a crude bomb explosion. Further investigat­ions were being carried out, he added.

Rape accused arrested

PRAYAGRAJ : Civil Lines police arrested a property dealer accused of raping a woman in a moving car and making her obscene video. The accused Deepak Pal was arrested on Monday. Police said that action will also be taken against other accused in the car. The arrested property dealer was earlier arrested by Naini police in another rape case. According to reports, hailing from Balia district, a woman has lodged an FIR at Civil Lines police station on November 17 last year against Deepak Pal, his mother, sister and friends for gang rape, issuing threats and embezzling cash Rs 26 lakh on the pretext of providing property. The woman claimed that Deepak took the cash on the pretext of property in the Naini area. On August 21, Deepak called the woman to Civil Lines on the pretext of returning the money and gangraped her in his car with his other accomplice­s. SHO Civil Lines Virendra Singh said accused was arrested on Monday and has been sent to jail.

Marijuana smuggler arrested by GRP PRAYAGRAJ : A team of GRPPrayagr­aj arrested a man with 29.5 kilograms of marijuana worth several lakhs from Purushotta­m Express on Sunday. The marijuana was being brought from Orissa and was to be taken to Delhi, police said. Circle Officer GRP Qamrul Hasan said a team under Inspector GRP Ram Mohan Rai and RPF personnel carried out a checking drive after receiving a tip-off about the presence of a smuggler in Purushotta­m Express. A suspect was caught from coach B-5 of the train with a bag. The person was identified as Avinash Singh aka Vikky of West Delhi and 29.5 kilograms of marijuana was seized from him. Vikky hails from the Jhajjar district of Haryana. He informed the team that he used to bring marijuana from Bhuvaneshv­ar and sell it for Rs 10000 per kilogram in Delhi.
