Cops knock on doors of 400 criminals, arrest 6

MEERUT : Around 480 police personnel, including 65 women cops, knocked on the doors of nearly 400 people accused of different crimes under Lisari gate police station limits in Meerut on Sunday morning for the scrutiny of their present status a couple of days after the declaratio­n of results of UP assembly polls, police officials said on Monday.

The drive was named “Operation 2” as a similar drive was conducted in the area before the state assembly election in September last year which 10 criminals were arrested, said circle officer, Kotwali area, Arvind Chaurasia.

Meerut city’s Lisari gate police station is listed among top 10 police stations of the state with a high crime rate, he added. The special drive was the brainchild of Meerut superinten­dent of police (SSP) Prabhakar Choudhary.

Sunday’s drive was carried out on the direction of SSP Prabhakar Choudhary and superinten­dent of police, city, Vineet Bhatnagar. The circle officer said the list of people with criminal antecedent­s was prepared with the help of jail authoritie­s and local police.

Circle officer Arvind Chaurasia led the drive for which 34 teams comprising 480 police personnel from different police stations were formed. Chaurasia said during the drive that lasted six hours, six criminals, including two each involved in cow slaughters and loot incidents, and two possessing illegal weapons were arrested. The police teams verified the addresses of the criminals, their present status among other things during the drive.

The objective was to prepare a dossier of their present activities and status and to look for wanted criminals and motivate them to lead their life as law

NEW DELHI: A wanted gangster, who is involved in supplying illegal guns and other weapons in the Capital, was arrested with four pistols and over 30 bullets in Kamla Nehru Ridge Park in Civil Lines.

Deputy commission­er of police (special cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said the accused, Danish alias Salman, a resident of Muzaffarna­gar in UP, was listed as one of the top 10 wanted criminals by Meerut Police since February 2021 and has previously been involved in 19 cases of dacoity, robbery, attempt to murder and snatching in UP.
