Gang of ATM fraudsters busted, three held
PRAYAGRAJ : Joint teams of special operations group (SOG) and Jhunsi police busted an inter-state gang of ATM fraudsters and arrested three of its members with cash worth Rs 1,10,500, firearms, ammunition, a car and an iron rod. The arrested persons confessed to their involvement in many incidents of ATM fraud in Prayagraj and other districts of the state besides committing similar crimes in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar etc, police said.
SP Crime Satish Chandra said acting on a tip-off police teams arrested Mohanlal Vishwakarma of Bhadohi district, Shiva Sahitya and Subedar Yadav of Handia area. The fraudsters used to target ATM booths with no security guards. They used to install a special clip at the cash plate. The cash withdrawn by the customer used to block in the clip which was later taken out by gang members. The accused also used to break chest vaults of ATM on getting an opportunity, SP Crime added.
PRAYAGRAJ : A two-day national seminar on “environmentalism, gender justice and sustainability in contemporary India” commenced at the department of Sociology, Allahabad University, on Monday.
In his key-note address, Prof Ashok Kaul, Professor Emeritus, BHU, spoke about the trajectories of invisibility of women in the modernist and postmodernist discourse where women’s agency and their healthy relation with the environment was historically neglected.
He also spoke about the prevalence of uncertainty in the contemporary world and highlighted the role of women in preserving the environment.
In her presidential remarks, Allahabad University vice-chancellor, Prof Sangita Srivastava deliberated on the ways in which women were always burdened with the task of maintaining environmental sustainability.
Padma Bhushan Prof Bindeshwar Pathak was the guest of honour.
