Maya: Tough to stick to Ambedkar’s mission in this “age of flattery”
The BSP had won a solitary seat in the just concluded UP elections, posting its worst show
LUCKNOW : Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday said it was a tough task to stick to the mission of Babasaheb Ambedkar in this “age of flattery” and asserted that her party, through its movement, was taking this mission forward.
Mayawati made these remarks after paying tribute to her mentor and Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshiram on his birth anniversary, at the BSP state office in Lucknow.
“It’s due to this missionary zeal that the BSP achieved several big successes in UP in the past, and in future too, we would have to remain true to our ideals and fight for them at all costs,” she said.
“I would like to thank all those in UP and elsewhere, who, during these challenging times, have kept working for the sake of the movement,” she added.
The BSP chief also recalled that during her four terms as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, several memorials and monuments dedicated to BSP icons, including Kanshiram, were built as a lasting tribute for their initiatives for the Bahujan samaj.

Maya names new leader in LS LUCKNOW : BSP chief Mayawati wrote to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla that she had appointed Girish Chandra Jatav, party MP from Nagina Lok Sabha seat, as the leader of the parliamentary party in place of Ritesh Pandey, her party’s Ambedkarnagar MP.
Mayawati didn’t assign any reason for the change. In her missive, Mayawati said while Girish Chandra Jatav would be her party’s leader in Lok Sabha, Ram Shiromani Verma, party MP from Shravasti, the deputy leader of the party. Sangeeta Azad, MP from Lalganj, would be the party’s chief whip. Mayawati is the chairperson of the BSP Parliamentary Board.
