DEHRADUN: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced that “The Kashmir Files” movie will be tax free in the state. Following the announcement, an order was issued by the state government on Tuesday to this effect.

Dhami wrote on his Facebook page, “Today had a phone conversation with ‘The Kashmir Files’ director Vivek Agnihotri. I congratulated him for showcasing atrocities on Kashmiri Hindus through the film with his excellent direction. Along with this, I also ordered the chief secretary to take necessary action to make this film tax free in Uttarakhand.”

Karnataka, Haryana, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have made the movie tax-free.

The film is based on genocide and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir valley after 1989 due to militancy.

Dhami watched the movie with his family on Monday evening at a mall in the state capital.

After watching the movie, Dhami said, “The film ‘The Kashmir Files’ is a touching depiction of the human tragedy that took place in the Kashmir Valley in 1990”.

Dhami appealed to the people of the state to watch this film.

“The Uttarakhand government is making Kashmir Files tax-free, so that our present generation also sees and understands this film. Many big leaders of Uttarakhand BJP and a large number of workers have seen this film till now. Through social media, many leaders are appealing to the general public to watch this film more and more,” he said.

Dhami thanked the filmmaker and artistes who brought out the agony, plight and heinous tales of sufferings of the Hindus of Kashmir.
