Man killed by villagers after firing in Kaushambi, brother injured

PRAYAGRAJ: A group of villagers assaulted two brothers and thrashed them resulting in the death of one of them at Meerpur village under Pipri police station of Kaushambi district on Monday morning. The villagers alleged that the two often used to come to Meerpur and fire shots to create terror. On Monday, the villagers objected when they again started firing shots resulting in the incident, police said.

SP Kaushambi Hemraj Meena said the deceased man has been identified as Zafar Alam, around 30 years while the injured man was his brother Noor Alam. The two are residents of Asrauli village.

Police reached the spot after receiving informatio­n about the incident and took the injured to hospital where one of them was pronounced dead. The other one is undergoing treatment.

Primary investigat­ions revealed that the two youths had a tiff with some villagers following which they were attacked. A country-made firearm, two cartridges, including one live round, were recovered from the spot. A case has been filed and further investigat­ions are on, he added.

Pratapgarh

PRAYAGRAJ: The Pratapgarh police on Monday arrested the person accused of raping a woman inside a toilet near Pratapgarh railway station recently.

The incident had taken place in the wee hours on March 19 when the woman had gone to the toilet.

On the complaint of the woman, police had lodged an FIR against the accused who was identified as Shubham aka Anna. Shubham had been at large since then.

Satpal Antil, SP, Pratapgarh, had constitute­d several teams and raids were carried out in Pratapgarh, Prayagraj and other nearby districts to trace him.

Ravindrana­th Rai, SHO, Pratapgarh’s Kotwali police station, said that the accused was arrested on Monday. He said that acting on a tip-off a police team was dispatched to a location in Kotwali police station area, from where Shubham was arrested.
