Tributes paid to Bismillah Khan

VARANASI: Music lovers paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan on his birth anniversar­y in Kashi on Monday. Congress leader Ajay Rai, Ustad’s kin and his fans, including Shakeel Jadoogar offered flowers at Ustad’s mausoleum in Sigra.

Jadoogar said that despite being a worldfamou­s Shehnai maestro, Ustad lived a simple life. He was a Banarasi and was full of Banarasipa­n.

Ustad’s kin including Jareen Beghum, Azara Beghum, Afaq Haidar, Ifthekhar Ahmad and others attended the event.

Short term course begins

PRAYAGRAJ: A five-day short-term course on training on geospatial technologi­es for disaster mitigation, organised by GIS Cell of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT)Allahabad, began on Monday. This course is sponsored by National Geospatial Programme (erstwhile NRDMS), DST. Participan­ts from various organisati­ons such as Physics Research Laboratory, MoRTH, UPEIDA and Indian Railways are attending the course.
