Woman held for posing as Bangladeshi Muslim
RUDRAPUR: A Hindu woman was held for posing as a Bangladeshi Muslim citizen in Bazpur of US Nagar district.
She used to narrate stories of victimisation by relatives to draw sympathy of the Muslims and get money, police said.
When police verified her identity, it was revealed that she hailed from Firozabad of UP and her story of victimisation by relatives was false.
“Police were informed by someone that a Bangladeshi woman was at Chhaila Shah Baba dargah near Mudiakala bend in Bazpur. The woman was taken into custody and during questioning, she said that she hails from Firozabad but used to pose as a Bangladeshi Muslim to draw sympathy of the Muslims and get money by misleading them,” said Chandra Mohan Singh, additional superintendent of police, Kashipur.
Police said the woman reached the dargah on Tuesday and introduced herself as Rashida from Dhaka of Bangladesh. She said she has two children, Umera and Abdul, and her husband had died. The woman said she received ₹40 lakh as insurance claim in Bangladesh but her brother-inlaw and sister-in-law snatched away the money and left her in Chhattisgarh, and also took away her passport and ID. Since then, the woman said, she has been wandering here and there.
She was taken into custody and brought to Bazpur police station.
She created a ruckus and pelted stones at police. When the woman was questioned, she revealed her name as Reeta and said she hails from Firozabad area of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
Her husband is alive. She poses as a Bangaldeshi and wanders near mazars or dargahs.
She narrates a false emotional story so that Muslims showing pity on her give her money, police said.
