PRAYAGRAJ : A new recruitment drive to appoint assistant professors in 331 governmentaided degree colleges spread across the state is expected to start after July, say state high education department officials in the know about the matter.

Director, higher education, Amit Bhardwaj in a letter to all regional higher education officers on March 24 directed them to send details regarding vacant posts of assistant professors and principals in government-aided colleges of their respective regions on a priority by April 5, they added.

Although officials of Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Services Commission, Prayagraj, are reluctant to comment on the issue owing to model code of conduct in place in many districts, including Prayagraj, due to the forthcoming Vidhan Parishad polls, the missive, a copy of which is with HT, does make clear that the details of the vacant posts are to be sent to the office of director of higher education in hardcopy through a special courier within the given deadline.

“If any anomaly occurs owing to erroneous requisition details regarding vacant posts, the regional higher education officers and principals of the colleges concerned would be personally held responsible for the same,” Bharadwaj has warned in the missive.

At present, interviews are set to be held by mid-July for filling 2002 vacant posts of assistant professors under advertisement number 50 issued by the UP Higher Education Services Commission on February 25, 2022.

After that the advertisement for new recruitment is expected to get be issued.

While the officials concerned are not ready to speculate over the number of vacant posts that could be on offer in the new recruitment drive, many in the department say the directorate of education had received information regarding around 4000 vacant posts of assistant professor earlier but recruitment was done on only 2000 posts.

At the same time, officials concede that orders were given by the state government to determine the manpower required as per norms against the number of students in various government-aided institutions but this could not be completed.

Now requisition of vacant posts has been sought according to the manpower assessment till April 5. Only then will further action be taken, they say.
