Govt orders probe into fire incident involving Ola scooter
NEW DELHI: The government has ordered a probe into the incident of an Ola electric scooter catching fire in Pune last week.
The Centre for Fire Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES) has been asked to probe the circumstances that led to the incident and also suggest remedial measures, according to the ministry of road transport and highways.
The ministry has also asked CFEES to share the findings along with remedial measures for improvement and to prevent such incidents in future.
On Saturday, Ola Electric said it was investigating the incident of its electric scooter catching fire in Pune and would take action. A video of the company’s electric scooter catching fire was circulated on social media with users raising questions over the safety standards of the vehicle.
“Safety is top priority. We’re investigating this and will fix it,” Ola co-founder and chief executive officer Bhavish Aggarwal said in a tweet.
“We are aware of an incident in Pune that happened with one of our scooters and are investigating to understand the root cause and will share updates in the next few days,” the Bengaluru-based company said on Twitter. The company said it is in touch with the customer, “who is absolutely safe”.
“We take this incident seriously and will take appropriate action and share more in coming days,” Ola Electric said. This was the first safety-related incident reported since the company started deliveries of the electric scooter. It had earlier faced issues with delivery timelines.
CFEES comes under the Systems Analysis and Modelling cluster of Defence Research and Development Organisation labs.
