BJP bags Alld-Kaushambi MLC seat, Jansatta Dal Loktantrik Pratapgarh

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate KP Srivastava was declared elected from Allahabad -Kaushambi local authoritie­s’ constituen­cy and Jansatta Dal Loktantrik Party’s Akshay Pratap emerged victorious from Pratapgarh in the Uttar Pradesh biennial legislativ­e council polls-2022, here on Tuesday.

BJP candidate and former mayor KP Srivastava won the seat by a margin of 1,658 votes. He defeated Samajwadi Party’s Basudeo Yadav in a direct contest. Srivastava bagged 3,180 votes while Basudeo Yadav could secure just 1,522 votes. In the counting for Allahabad –Kaushambi seat held at Sadar tehsil, independen­t candidates Abhishek Kumar of Meja got 13 votes, Kamal Kumar Mishra of Meja received 21 votes and Dharma Raj of Handia got just 11 votes.

On the other hand, Raghuraj Pratap Singh aka Raja Bhaiya’s Jansatta Dal Loktantrik Party candidate Akshay Pratap Singh Gopal ensured his victory in a one-sided contest, bagging the Pratapgarh MLC seat.

BJP candidate Har Pratap Singh stood second and Samajwadi Party candidate Vijay Bahadur Yadav came third.

In Pratapgarh, out of the total 2,815, as many as 2,794 voters cast their vote for electing the new MLC on April 9. Counting of votes began at 8 am on Tuesday at Rural Developmen­t Institute. In the three rounds of counting of votes, Akshay Pratap Gopal of Jansatta Dal Loktantrik got 1,721 votes, Har Pratap Singh of Bharatiya Janata Party got 614 and Vijay Bahadur Yadav of Samajwadi Party got 380 votes. Independen­t candidate Kailash Nath Ojha got 14, Madhurima Singh got six and Rajendra Maurya got seven votes. Akshay Pratap has been elected to the legislativ­e council for the fifth time from the district.
