PRAYAGRAJ: : With MLC polls over and the model code of conduct lifted, development works are all set to gain momentum in the district.

Various development projects yet to be started or incomplete, including construction of a Ganga Museum atop Curzon Bridge, installation of a 51-feet statue of Lord Ram and Nishadraj in Shringverpur Dham to encourage tourism, light and sound show in Chandra Shekhar Azad Park under the Prayagraj Smart City initiative and construction of five electric crematoriums etc are expected to gain pace in the coming days.

These development works would be executed by the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC), Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), department of tourism and Prayagraj Smart City Ltd, among others. These departments would soon be fully equipped with the blueprint for the development works before the next Magh Mela and the same are expected to be completed before Maha Kumbh 2025. Soon tenders would be floated for these works, officials shared. Almost all the departments had completed their preparations to start these development works but the proposed new works here were put on hold due to the code of conduct applicable for assembly and MLC elections. Recently, the divisional commissioner had held a meeting and discussed these upcoming works.

The divisional commissioner had recently sought a comprehensive proposal for the river museum on the Curzon Bridge and it is expected that the proposal would be sent to the state government within this month. Constructing a complex near Bharadwaj Muni Ashram too is on the cards, tender for which would be floated soon. A proposal for widening of roads will be prepared and placed in the meeting of the Mela authority.

Another project which would soon be expedited is that of a 51-feet high statue of Lord Ram and Nishadraj that would be installed in Shringverpur Dham to encourage tourism. The base of the statue is ready and its foundation stone is to be laid this month. It is expected that chief minister Yogi Adityanath would attend the foundation stone laying ceremony.

Likewise, a light and sound show will start at Chandrashakhar Azad Park under the Smart City Project. A place has been identified for this. The tender was not floated due to enforcement of the model code of conduct. It was planned to start the show by Independence Day this year, shared a senior Prayagraj Smart City project official.

The PMC will also start the work on the environmental improvement of the city. Under this, unpaved roads and drains will be built. The construction of five electric crematoriums will start this month. Tender for the plant to make bio-CNG plant from wet waste will be floated soon. The PDA will also take a decision on handing over the Prayagraj Boat Club to private hands on PPP model. Apart from these, construction of roads and other works will also be started under Smart City.

“Now that the model code of conduct has been lifted, we expect to expedite several of our projects which were on hold”, said vice chairman of PDA, Arvind Kumar Chauhan.
