Kashi police return Bihar man’s lost briefcase with cash and jewellery

VARANASI : Harendra Singh and his kin thanked Varanasi Police Commission­erate after getting back their briefcase which they forgot in the Kashipura locality under the Chowk police station area of Varanasi, police said.

A police officer said that Harendra Singh, a resident of Son Basra area in district Siwan in Bihar, along with his family had come to Varanasi for ‘darshan’ of Baba Kashi Vishwanath at Kashi Vishwanath Temple. After darshan, they boarded an auto rickshaw and left for the railway station to catch Rajdhani Express for Delhi. In a hurry, they left one of their suitcases.

Police said that after seeing the unclaimed briefcase lying in the Kashipura area, there was a sensation among the public.

A person informed Chowk station officer, inspector Shivanand Mishra about it. Immediatel­y

a police team was sent to the spot.

After the protective checking, the suitcase was brought to the local police station and was opened. The briefcase was found to have the items including ₹70000 cash, a gold ring, a gold coin, a silver coin of 50 grams, two silver coins of 10 grams each, two other silver coins

a gold mangalsutr­a, four pairs of anklets, nose pin, toe ring and five sarees. A telephone number was also found in the briefcase.

The owner was contacted through the number and questioned if they forgot their briefcase and what was in it.

After it was confirmed that the briefcase belonged to Harendra Singh, he was called to the police station and the briefcase was handed over to him.

Harendra Singh and his family members said, “We are thankful to the police personnel of Chowk police station as well as the entire Police Commission­erate.”
