Efforts begin to find reasons for 4.16 lakh skipping exams
PRAYAGRAJ : Formal efforts have begun to ascertain the reasons for a whopping 4.16 lakh students skipping the recently concluded UP Board high school and intermediate examination2022.
“Secretary, UP Board, Divyakant Shukla has sent a missive dated April 13 to all the district inspectors of schools (DIOSs) and instructed them to submit their reports in this regard by April 18,” said a senior official of the Prayagraj-headquartered UP Board. “Specify the exact count of private and regular candidates who had registered for the class 10 and class 12 examinations for your respective districts and how many of them skipped the exam,” says the missive sent to the DIOSs, a copy of which is with HT.
“What was the reason for these students not appearing in the exams,” the DIOSs have been asked to explain in the missive that makes plain that the exercise was being undertaken in response to the government order issued in this very regard on April 11, 2022.
UP Board 2022 exams that concluded on April 13 had a total of 51,92,689 candidates registered for them but out of them 4,16,940 remained absent across the state. The absentees included 2,56,647 students of high school and 1,60,293 students of intermediate.
On the third day of the UP Board exam on March 26, 70,207 students out of the total 8,68,158 registered to appear in them had skipped the exams across the state. Following this, additional chief secretary, secondary education, UP, Aradhana Shukla has directed secretary, UP Board, Divyakant Shukla to constitute a committee and collect information from DIOSs of all districts regarding the reasons for such large number of students remaining absent each day.
Aradhana Shukla at the time had s aid that after ascertaining the reasons for the students skipping the exams, efforts would be made to redress them after constituting a panel of experts to look into the causes with an aim to ensure that students appear in the exams in a fear-free environment.
